| ABSOLUTELY DERANGED:
The newest haunt in the Springfield area greets visitors with various horror
movies playing on a large screen as they drive into the attraction.
Threatening screams ring out as you first set foot inside Absolutely
Deranged. Jungle scenes, and body bags provide a couple of surprises
that lead to a dark, dead end containing maze, intense music, and more
blood curdling screams. A fence-like confinement soon follows, where
energetic ghouls laugh and taunt at your situation. Other scenes
include more darkened entrapments, and a demented encounter with an allergenic
Santa
Claus, who delivers one of the most grotesque surprises of all time!
Defying warnings that there’s “no way out,” delivers you into a blood-spattered
room that induces a hell-bent, chainsaw chase out of Absolutely Deranged.
Analysis;
LENGTH - 7, 10 minutes.
ACTORS - 8, Loud screams from a fairly intense cast doing
their utmost to provide scares, just not a large enough crew to rate higher.
SCARINESS - 7½, Darkness, disorienting music,
and lots of startles from overzealous characters. The experience
is just a little too short in duration. Climax is well done, and
preceding disorientation builds up to it nicely.
DESIGN - 7, Not an abundant amount of décor considering
the multiple mazes, plus much of the attraction is housed in tents.
Monsters directed us in the proper direction a little too soon, and a little
too often while inside the mazes. The remainder of the course wasn’t
as clear as it could’ve been, and characters again were forced to aid navigation.
PROPS - 6½, Could really benefit from additional
scenes, and augmenting the décor.
VALUE - 7, $9 with coupon is the going rate in the area,
but may be a bit over ambitious for a new haunt trying to attract a fan
base. The venue could become better established at a quicker rate
if they discounted admission.
RATING: 7, The best, thus highest rated
NEW haunt of the season to date. Pretty intense while it lasts, and
aptly named for its disorienting, confusing experience. Would be
nice if the length and variety of the mazes could be expanded upon, and
if the characters weren’t so eager to point you in the right direction.
With continued improvement, Absolutely Deranged has a lot of potential,
and brings a unique theme to its area. |
