| WILMINGTON HAUNTED HOLLOW RIDE:
Open-air buses, having their tops removed serve as transportation into
Wilmington’s
Haunted Hollow. Appropriately named
Undertaker,
Gravedigger,
Widowmaker,
etc., these man-made convertibles speed into the spook infested woods,
where witches, chainsaws, an animated dragon, bulldozers, and of course
the patented flame-throwing, horn blasting semis wait to claim their next
victims! The monsters are armed and dangerous, and the fields of
Clinton County come alive with surprises. You’ll make it in, the
question is, will the fire breathing behemoths allow you to survive Dead
Man’s Curve, and make it out of the Wilmington Haunted Hollow?
Analysis:
LENGTH - 8, approaching15 minutes.
ACTORS - 8, Very little dialogue, and a lot of masks,
but an incredible number of highly energetic, weapon and chainsaw wielding
crazies!
SCARINESS - 9, Repeated run-ins with various motorized
vehicles instill plenty of fear, supplemented by aggressive monsters, both
on and off the bus.
DESIGN - 9, One of the most unique haunts around.
Scenes have been added, and the course extended. Transition zones
between scenes are covered by busses increasing their speed, and countless
interactions with various creatures. It’s so different from all the
rest, you’re just never ready for it to end!
PROPS - 9, Trucks, bulldozer, and substantial use of
fire are impressive standouts. Scenes could stand additional detailing,
although progress has been made in comparison to last year’s effort.
VALUE - 9½, $10 as a stand-alone feature attraction,
but less when purchased as part of a two, or three haunt combo deal with
the complimentary haunts making their debuts at the site.
RATING: 9 Without question, the most unique haunt
around. The addition of a pair of smaller attractions discussed below,
only adds to the already action packed adventure. Lots to do at the
Wilmington
Haunted Hollow. But you better get there early, as lines get
longer as the night goes on. |
| SLAUGHTER HOTEL:
Check into the once glamorous, Hotel that's now in a state of disrepair.
Climb aboard the late Samuel Slaughter's surprise containing elevator,
and ride down "twelve stories beneath the ground!" Explore his quest
for a bride, while searching for the secret "floor" that hides his eccentric
laboratory, as well as the bridal suite - room 1313 that the rich developer
designed in preparation for that one special night! Darkness rules
in the depths of The Hotel, where irate beings have taken up residence,
and aren't too pleased that you've invaded their home! Wicked sounds,
apparitions, and a secret door maze, haunt the experience, and the only
way out is to climb the steep ramps that lead back "above ground" and out
of The Slaughter Hotel.
Analysis: A little under 10 minutes in duration,
but great while it lasts. Assaulting sounds and surprising characters
unnerve your progression through lightless, previously unexplored areas
of the "13th floor!" At less than $7 a head as part of the multi-haunt
combo package, Slaughter Hotel brings a more traditional haunted
house themed event to the Wilmington Haunted Hollow site.
Obviously, it's not really 13 stories beneath the Earth, but it makes for
a good tale! If you get too scared, don't bother calling out for
help, because underground, no one can hear you scream! |
| NIGHTMARE
PENITENTIARY: Disorienting sirens and alarms,
maniacal chainsaws, and crazed, imprisoned convicts rule the barbec-wire
fence enclosed Nightmare Pen. Explore the foggy maze and entrapments
that arise from jail cells of the undead. Once they get you locked
in, you may never get out of Nightmare Penitentiary!
Analysis: Only about 5 minutes long, but
filled with fierce intensity. Enraged prisoners struggle to cope
with their destiny, and take desperate measures to seek freedom.
Although the experience is limited by it's length, it's non-stop action
from the moment you first step inside, until you finally break free.
Scenes are continuous, and authentically decorated. Costing less
than $7 as part of the 3-haunt combo ticket, Nightmare Penitentiary
is
an all-out assault! What more would you expect from Wilmington's
Haunted
Hollow? |
